SUBJECT: Appointments to the Economic Development Committee
SUGGESTED
ACTION: Approve appointments of John Robinson and Clayton Shurley
The Economic Development Committee (EDC) recommended the appointment of two new
members at their meeting of May 16, 2001. Staff was awaiting recommendations from the Ad
Hoc Committee to review the Economic Development Committee and Enviromnental Affairs
Committee before bringing these appointments to the City Council. The Ad Hoc Committee has
recommended no changes other than a clarification to the membership structure of EDC, and
• directed staff to proceed with the EDC appointments.
John Robinson is recommended for the position representing Balboa Island. He is the owner of
Amelia's Restaurant, and active in the business district and the community. Clayton Shurley is
recommended for the position with special knowledge in the restaurant industry. He is the new
president of the Restaurant Association. Until recently, he owned the Riverboat Caf6, and
continues to own a catering business in Newport Beach.
