Re: Build A Mariners Library Fund
The grassroots committee for Build A Mariners Library fund will make
a presentation on the joint project to build a Mariners public- school
library, the Rally at Mariners Park on April 20, and the current
fundraising activities.
Build A Mariners Library Committee:
Marian Bergeson, Honorary Chair
Theresa Burke Chase, Co -Chair
Chris Wilkinson, Co -Chair
The Committee and library staff have prepared a brief PowerPoint
presentation to provide basic information about the project and to
assist in the fundraising.
As of April 15, 2002, the Committee has raised $161,569. The funds
have all been deposited into the City of Newport Beach Escrow
Account 800 -2294.

through the California Public Library Construction & Renovation Act)

•Storytime room that doubles as a classroom
•12 public computers reserved for children
-Librarians always available to work with children
-Expanded school and public library collections
-Homework Center, complete with 5 homework PC's

•A Teen Center
-Public computers for teens
-Lounge chairs
-Study tables
-Young adult paperbacks
The' City of Newport Beach has:
,Voted to support the project
-Retained Thirtieth Street Architects inc, for a design concept
-Committed to relocate athletic facilities as needed
rProvided $380,000 annually to run Mariners Branch Library j
-Provided online resources at all the branches
-Provided over 325,000 items for circulation at any branch and the
Central Library

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District will:
-Work with public library staff to develop children's library services
-Provide materials for a school library & add the Mariners School Library
collection to the joint library collection
-Provide a Mariners Elementary School librarian to staff the Children's
Library

Members of the community have formed the
"Build a Mariners Library Fund" Committee to
raise the required $1,000,000 in matching funds.
