No Eelgrass patches were observed in subject area noted above. No Caulerpa Taxifolia was observed in subject area noted above. This is a Preliminary report as required in accordance with the Southern California Eelgrass Mitigation Policy (SCEMP) since eelgrass is widely distributed throughout Southern California Coastal and Harbor Regions. This policy has been set in place to protect marine habitats and sea grass beds that play a role in the life cycle chain for marine life to reproduce. Costa Mesa, California Preliminary Eelgrass Survey Report Prepared October 26, 2011 by Dive Works Robert Wiegand Survey assistance by Sean Donovan (949) 759-0773 Survey Method DIVE WORKS 429-0 Shoreline Village Drive Long Beach, CA 90802 (949) 7.59-0773 Survey conducted October 26, 2011 beginning at 1310 hr approximately N Lat 33.364699° - W Long 117.552100°. Day was clear and sunny with few clouds; temperatures ranged in the high 60°s F. Water temperature was 61° F. Depth ranged from 5 ft to approximately 9 ft just past end of dock (low tide). Visibility was good, reaching 15 ft. Survey area delineated spanning 50 ft to 30 ft to cover all shade and impact areas of the existing dock. Survey conducted with divers spaced 1-3 ft apart perpendicular to shoreline. Lane width was approximately 5 ft wide scanning approximately 2 ft on either side, covering the entire area to ensure >75% coverage of bay floor. Survey Findings No Caulerpa was observed (see attached Caulerpa Survey Reporting Form). No Eelgrass was observed within or adjacent to property near or under neighbors docks (see Figure 2). Visibility was good. The water depth ranged from the 5 - 9 ft at end of dock. Figure 2. There was no eelgrass under the dock or forward from the shore from beginning of dock on either side up to about 6 feet away from dock (see Figure 3). This preliminary survey can serve as the baseline for subsequent surveys and can be compared against future survey's. Figure 3. The form has been designed to assist in any potential impacts of the authorized actions on the spread of Caulerpa. Surveys required to be conducted for this species are subject to modification through publication of revisions to the Caulerpa survey policy. It is incumbent upon the authorized permittee to ensure that survey work is following the latest protocols.
