Harbor Permits/ Maint Dredging Agenda Item No. F-12 CITY OF NEWPORT BEACN Marine Department September 24, 1990 TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: Marine Department SUBJECT: HARBOR PERMIT 175-800 BY THE LIDO ISLE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION TO REVISE THE PIER AND FLOAT BAYWARD OF THE STREET END AT VIA WAZIERS Recommendation: If desired approve the application subject to the approval of.the Plans and Specifications by the City of Newport Beach Public Works Department. Discussion: This application is before the Council as required by Section 5.B of the Harbor Permit Policies, -which states: S.B.°Prior approval of the City Council will be required before the Marine Department may issue any permit that does not conform to Standard Drawings and the adopted Harbor Permit Policies." The Lido Isle Community Association maintains a number of piers around the island which are available for use by Lido Island residents. These piers were constructed approximately 30 years ago and do not conform to the current Harbor Permit Policies or Standard Drawings. The Marine Department in -the past has approved the reconstruction of existing piers and floats that do not conform if they are essentially reconstructed within. the dimensions permitted in the past. The current application is to rebuild the structure as originally approved. The current Harbor Permit Policies also require that the structures be set back 5 feet from the property line. In this particular location, a five foot set back would bring the revised structure into conflict with the City storm drain on the property. It is therefore recommended that the setback for the rebuilt structure be approved at three feet.
