SUBJECT: Recommendation from Economic Development Committee to fill EDC
vacancy.
ISSUE:
Fill current vacancy on Economic Development Committee.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. Fill current Economic Development Committee vacancy by appointing Mr. Jim
Donnell as "Fashion Island" representative.
DISCUSSION:
Background:
At their regular meeting of September 15t, 2004, the Economic Development
Committee's Executive Committee recommended that Mr. Jim Donnell be appointed to
the "Fashion Island" position on the committee. This is a new position, created in
February of this year when the committee membership was restructured to match
current City needs.
Recommendation to fill Vacancy:
Until recently, Mr. Donnell was the vice - president and store manager of the Robinsons-
May Department Store at Fashion Island, and has served numerous terms as President
of the Fashion Island Merchants Association (see Bio, attached Exhibit 1). Having
recently retired from Robinsons -May, Mr. Donnell is now a retail and management
consultant to businesses in Fashion Island and elsewhere. His insight into the retail

industry, as well as his experience with the Fashion Island retail community, will provide
an immediate benefit to the issues tackled by the EDC. Mr. Donnell is also a resident of
Newport Beach.
