SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CONTROL ON VIA FIRENZE
RECOMMENDATION:
Introduce an Ordinance amending Section 12.52.070 of the Municipal Code to
designate Via Firenze between Via Lido Soud and Piazza Lido as one -way, northeast
bound traffic only.
DISCUSSION:
The residents of Via Firenze, on Lido Isle, have expressed concerns regarding the
traffic volumes and safety on this street. A petition was submitted to the Public Works
Department asking that Via Firenze be converted from the current two -way operation to
a one -way street, northeast bound between Via Lido Soud and Piazza Lido.
The item was brought before the Traffic Affairs Committee (TAC) on September 8,
2004. Via Firenze is one of only two twenty (20) foot wide streets on Lido Isle that
currently operate as two -way streets. The other street is Via Barcelona, which provides
direct access to parking for the community tennis courts. A twenty (20) foot wide street,
with parking on one side, does not meet City standards for circulation of two -way traffic.
The Traffic Affairs Committee approved the request.
Environmental Review:
Categorically Exempt under Chapter 3, Article 19, Section 15301, Class 1 (c) of the
Title 14 California Code of Regulations. Exemption for minor alteration of existing
facilities not expanding existing uses.

ORDINANCE NO. 2004-
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH AMENDING CHAPTER 12.52.070
OF THE NEWPORT BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE TO
DESIGNATE VIA FIRENZE BETWEEN VIA LIDO SOUD
AND PIAZZA LIDO AS ONE -WAY, NORTHEAST BOUND
TRAFFIC ONLY
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach does hereby ordain as follows:
SECTION 1: Section 12.52.070 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code is
amended by adding the following street as a one -way street:
Via Firenze from Via Lido Soud to Piazza Lido. Northeast bound traffic only.
SECTION 2: The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall cause the same to be
published once in the official newspaper of the City, and it shall be effective thirty (30)
days after its adoption.
SECTION 3: This ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the City
Council of the City of Newport Beach held on the 28th day of September, 2004, and
• adopted on the _ day of 2004, by the following vote, to wit:
