WENDY BROOKS
SUMMARY AS TO WHY I WISH TO SERVE ON THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH 2006 CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE
As you can see from my background, serving my community is
nothing new to me. I strongly believe in giving back and have always
done so through education, the arts and civic organizations.
From the time I was a teenager I used to visit Newport Beach on
weekends, holidays and vacations with two sisters who were and still
are among my closest friends. Their family owned the Balboa Pavilion
during the 1940's, 1950's and early 1960's. Through the years I
continued to visit the area and always wanted to move here. Ten
years ago that dream came true.
Living in Newport Beach is truly special to me. Serving on the City's
2006 Centennial Committee would be a once -in -a- lifetime opportunity
to bring my knowledge and experience, not to mention my passion, to
the City about which I care so much.
Should I be fortunate enough to be appointed to the Committee, I am
fully prepared to scale down my activities, with the exception of the
Arts Commission and the Foundation, to make this my top priority.
It would be an honor and a privilege to be able to share my vision,
energy and enthusiasm with such a distinguished team.

September 30, 2002
Dear Mayor Ridgeway and Members of City Council,
During the 1950s, when my family owned the Balboa
Pavilion, I first had the pleasure of getting to know Wendy
Brooks. As a teenager, she used to visit Newport Beach with my
two nieces and always wanted to live here and be part of the
community.
Today, she has realized that dream, having moved here
over eight years ago, and proven that her desire to become
involved was far more than words. As you can readily observe
from her background (please see attached), Wendy has
remained extremely active, both while in Los Angeles and now
in Newport Beach, balanced between the arts and civic
affairs.
She still retains the traits she embodied then: energy,
passion, enthusiasm and a commitment to give back to her
community. Although Wendy is a strong, individual thinker, she
nevertheless epitomizes the qualities this group would be
fortunate to find in a team player.
In summary, even though other applicants may appear to
be more qualified "on paper ", it would be difficult to find
another candidate with the combination of attributes Wendy
Brooks would bring to the Arcs Commission. I feel that Wendy
would be an asset to any organization devoted to enhancing
the artistic and cultural life of the community, and I strongly
recommend her for your most serious consideration.

To The Members of City Council:
It is my pleasure to support Wendy Brooks' application to serve on the
City of Newport Beach Arts Commission. f met Wendy In 1997 and over
the years she has come to be one of my dearest friends.
Wendy has so many qualities I cherish and respect. She is direct, honest,
reliable, sensitive and insightful. In seeking a friend or a member of an
organization, there is little more that could be desired. Yet, it is her
aesthetic eye, her discerning Ieste and vision which holds the greatest
potential for making an important contribution to our city. A look at her
personal art collection would confirm `:hat.
The two years I spent as president of FOCIS, Friends of the Orange County
Inierfaith Shelter, tough me the value of having people with Wendy's
energy and enthusiasm on board. individuals make a difference and I
have never heard Wendy dismiss an idea without reason. She has a
genuine love of learning. embraces new concepts and is open - minded
while remaining true to her values.
in short, I feel that Wendy Brooks would be an asset to any group devoted
to enhancing the artistic and cultural life of our community.
Sincerely,
Gale Edelberg
