DISCUSSION:
Background:
On December 10, 2004, the City Council received a letter of resignation from David
Colley from the City Arts Commission effective on January 14, 2005. Mr. Colley was
appointed to a four -year term on the City Arts Commission effective July 1, 2002. His

unexpired term.
Pursuant to Council Policy A -2, I have prepared a Special Vacancy Notice for posting
and publication of the unscheduled vacancy. As per the notice, applications will be
accepted by the City Clerk's office until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2005. At
the close of the application period, I will forward the current applications on file, as well

them to review and conduct any necessary interviews. The two nominations made by

This letter will serve as notification that I will be resigning my position as a
member and Chair of the Newport Beach Arts Commission, effective January 14,
2005.
Unfortunately, this resignation is required due to the change in my permanent
residence in California. I will be relocating, and therefore unable to continue my
public service to the City of Newport Beach.
I have appreciated the opportunity to serve in this capacity, and am thankful that
the city has chosen to be so supportive of the arts in the past. I encourage you
and the City Council to maintain this level of support, and hope you continue to
ensure that arts - related activities and services are available to citizens and
students of Newport Beach.
Sind ely yours,
D vi Colley
