I am 26 years old and own a successful business. I am an artist. My company's name is Timree
Inc. and I design personalized hand painted dishes and accessories. I absolutely love it! In my
spare time, I am a family girl. My parents (Teddi and Sam Tate) are active members in the
Newport Beach Sister City. I have and an older sister (Truly) and brother (Scott) and four
beautiful nieces.
Family Information:
My grandfather, Moe Hamill, was one
of the founders of the Newport Beach
and Okazaki student exchange program
He has set the bar high to continue this
great friendship between Newport Beach
and Okazaki, Japan and I will do my
best to follow in his footsteps. Ever
since I was a little girl I remember him
hosting Japanese exchange students in
his home and showing them what
America has to offer. Now, it is my turn
and I feel honored for the experience. I
was fortunate to visit your beautiful city
last year during the cherry blossom
season; I can't wait to visit again.

Personal Information:
My name is Leilani Tanbara. I am fourteen years old and live in Costa Mesa, California. I am
in the eighth grade and attend Horace Ensign Middle School. I love school; I am student body
vice president. Being the Vice President comes with many responsibilities such as helping the
president run daily meetings, looking after committees, saying the announcements over the
intercom, and much more. My favorite sport is snowboarding. My family and I drive to Big
Bear, California every weekend to snowboard at the local mountains, Snow Summit and Bear
Mountain. Every other Sunday, during the snowboarding season, I compete in the United
States Amateur Snowboarding Association (USASA). This year I qualified for nationals at
Copper Mountain in Colorado. During the summer I go to the beach and usually participate in
a program called Newport Beach Jr. Lifeguards. This program teaches you beach safety and
keep you moving the entire summer.
Family Information:
I live with my mother Mary, my father Rio, and my younger brothers Max and Dane. I spend a
lot of time with my family, especially during the winter season when snow is falling. We own
a vacation home in Big Bear. My cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents spend a lot of time
in the mountains with us. My entire family shares the same love of snowboarding and skiing.
Max is ten years old, attends Kaiser Elementary, and is in the fifth grade. Dane is eight years
old, attends Woodland Elementary, and is
in the second grade. Both of my brothers
compete in the USASA, and also qualified
for nationals. My parents were also there
to support us and help run the events. We
are lucky to have a very close knit family,
and always do our best to spend a lot of
time together.

General Information:
I am involved in a variety of activities and enjoy trying new things. I enjoy playing computer
and video games, from RPG games to Dance Dance Revolution. I currently play on my middle
school Lacrosse team. It's a game that isn't too well known, but is the fastest growing sport in
California. It's a very physical sport and we have to wear a lot of pads and a helmet. It's
played with a metal stick with a net and a small ball. I practice a few times a week and hope to
play Junior Varsity when I enter high school next year. I also do a lot of reading, mostly
fantasy novels and classic literature. My favorite book series is Lord of the Rings and my
favorite movie series is The Matrix. I love to watch anime and have a small collection of
different series including Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Outlaw Star. During my vacations I
visit my dad, my step mom and two little sisters, Samantha (3 ' /z) and Jill (18 months), who
live in Virginia. When I'm not in Virginia I enjoy traveling to different places. So far I've
visited a couple of countries in Asia, as well as a couple of countries in Europe. I currently am
taking Japanese lessons outside of school, but at this point can't speak too much more than
basic phrases. I'm very interested in Japan and everything Japanese because I am half
Japanese myself and want to learn everything I can about the culture.
Family Information:
I live in Newport Coast with my mother Christine, step - father Daniel, and our dog Kira.
mom works as the CEO of a manufacturing
company, but is actually a psychologist.
Daniel is the President of a distribution
company that produces medicine using
Chinese herbs, known in Japan as Kanpo.
Our dog Kira is rather unusual because she's
of a rather uncommon breed called the Nova
Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. She's only
about a year and a half old and is very friendly
with new people. I live in Alexandria,
Virginia during the summers. Here my dad
works as an executive for the internet branch
of his company and my step mom watches
over little Samantha and Jill at home.

My Dad also supports me with my acting as

and loan business. He enjoys watching sports
especially auto racing. One of the main
reasons, my mother wanted me to go on this
trip because she loves international travel more
than anything.
