CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT
Agenda Item No. 3
September 13, 2005
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: Community & Economic Development, Planning Department

SUBJECT: Recommendation to Rescind the Economic Advisory Committee of the
City Council
ISSUE:
Should the City Council disband the committee formed in 2003 to explore the feasibility
of proposals that could provide economic and fiscal benefit to the City?
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a Resolution rescinding the City Council Economic Advisory Committee.
DISCUSSION:
In March, 2003, the City Council established a committee to assist staff in determining
the general feasibility of projects having potential to provide economic and fiscal
benefits to the City. It was thought that it would be helpful to staff and the business
community to have a City Council committee with whom we could discuss these
projects and assess their feasibility.
However, the Committee has held only two meetings since its establishment, and has
not been useful to the Council or staff. Therefore, it is recommended that the Council
rescind the Resolution establishing the Committee.
Environmental Review: The rescission of a committee is not a project as defined by
CEQA. Any proposal that would meet this definition would be subject to environmental
review.
