SUBJECT: Donation of Used Fire Equipment
RECOMMENDATION:
That Council approve the donation of used fire equipment to the Rotary Club of
Newport - Balboa for further transfer to appropriate Mexican agencies.
DISCUSSION:
Background: The Fire Department has an excess inventory of equipment that no longer
meets NFPA/EMS standards or is no longer serviceable to support the Fire
Department's mission.
The Department has been approached by the Rotary Club of Newport - Balboa to donate
this equipment to the Rotary International Program for help to first responder agencies
in Mexico. The items include: KED Splints, powered saws, jacks, stabilization bars, and
two small electric generators. Salvage value for these items is estimated at less than
$2000.
The equipment is targeted for either the Ensenada Fire Department or the Mexican Red
Cross.
Environmental Review: No environmental review required.
