SUBJECT: Purchase of Field Maintenance Skid Steer Loader
ISSUE:
Should the City Council authorize the purchase of a Bobcat skid steer loader from the
Bobcat Company in the amount of $52,576.79 to provide field maintenance services,
and approve a budget amendment to fund the purchase?
RECOMMENDATION:
Authorize the purchase of a Bobcat from the Bobcat Company in the amount of
$52,576.79 and approve a budget amendment transferring $52,576.79 from
unappropriated Equipment Replacement Fund balance to Account 6120 -9100
(Equipment Replacement — Rolling Equipment account) to fund the purchase.
DISCUSSION:
During the preparation of the FY 07 -08 Budget, the addition of a skid steer loader for the
Field Maintenance Division was inadvertently left off the Additional Vehicle /Equipment
List. The two crews in the Field Maintenance Division (Concrete and Street
Maintenance) currently share one 1999 loader. This results in the need to reschedule
work and /or borrow similar equipment from other departments when available. The
additional street maintenance responsibilities with annexation of Newport Coast and
Santa Ana Heights areas will significantly increase the demand for our street
maintenance equipment.
On September 20, 2007, the City mailed specifications to four companies that provide
this type of equipment. On October 4, 2007, three bids were received and are listed
below:
