SUBJECT: PURCHASE OFFICE TRAILERS
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1) Approve a Budget Amendment transferring the amount of $30,000 from salary
savings in the Engineering Division (5100 -7000) to Account No. 5100 -9400.
2) Approve the purchase of two (2) 24'x40' office trailers from Modular Structures
International at a cost not to exceed $127,977.
DISCUSSION:
On November 28, 2006, the City Council approved the purchase of two 24' x 40' office
trailers from Modular Structures International. Upon further investigation, staff
determined that the trailers offered by Modular Structures would not meet the city's
needs and requested the firm to provide additional information on possible building
modifications. On January 9, 2007, the City Council approved the addition of four
positions in the Planning Department. Staff since determined the appropriate
configuration for the trailer designated for the Planning Department which exceeded the
original scope of the request for bids for office trailers. As such, staff rejected the first
set of bids for this purchase and conducted a rebid with the revised schematic.
Staff requested bids for 24'x40' office trailers. Two firms provided bids for new
structures as follows:

The bid costs exclude furniture, equipment, and power /communications hookups. The
proposed location of the trailers would be in the grassy area parallel to Newport
Boulevard southerly of Finley Avenue (see attached map).
Funding Availability:
Upon approval of the budget amendment, sufficient funds are available to purchase the
trailers from the following accounts:
