Chief John Klein
Newport Beach Police Department
870 Santa Barbara Drive
Newport Beach, CA 92663
Dear Chief Klein:
P,P, C - is11.0k7
We the residents of 30`h Street would like to applaud the efforts of the Newport
Beach Police Department in cracking down on alcohol abuse on the peninsula.
Since this past summer we have noticed the increased police presence and
enforcement activity surrounding the out of control bars and unruly drunks
frequenting the peninsula. This "zero tolerance" policy helped the residents enjoy
one of the quietest summers in years. Not only was the police presence more
visible but the response to alcohol related calls for service was more aggressive
resulting in more DAC's and drunks going to jail.
The statistical information alone on the alcohol related accidents speak for
themselves as to just how unruly it has become on the peninsula. For years it has
been accepted and encouraged for individuals to come to the peninsula to get
drunk. We are glad you are finally restoring order to the community and making
it more enjoyable for everyone and not just the partygoers.
Thank you again for your efforts and we look forward to working together with the
Police Department to continue to improve the quality of life on the peninsula. You
have made a great dent in this problem and we ask that you continue to persevere.
Sincerely,
C
