Subject: West Newport Community Center
My wife and I wanted to voice our enthusiastic support for the construction of the West Newport Community
Center project. Unlike many people we meet that have lived here for decades we have lived in Newport Beach
for 15 years, have made it our home and plan to live here for many years to come. We think the addition of the
community center in West Newport area would be a welcomed asset to the city overall and encourage the City
Council to support it as well.

Tonights City Council Meeting /April 14, 2015
Mayor, Council and Staff:
We are in full support of the Staff recommendations to do a Dog Park study, go forward on the
West Newport Community Center and add funding for 4 more PD Officers on the Peninsula.
For the last ten years the residents have worked tirelessly putting in thousands of hours to alleviate
the over concentration of rehab homes and stop the ever present negative impacts on our quality of
the life and health and safety of our families.
We have been very successful in taking back our neighborhoods and felt it was time to move on to
revitalizing West Newport. An area that we love and an area that had been ignored and blighted by
the City for decades, as admitted by former Council Members.
We are hoping our new Council, you, will proceed with the continued support and funding our
community so much deserves and has received from the former Council the last 5 years.
We are THE area that attracts the most tourist and visitors to our city yet it seems we have to fight for
every improvement that is so easily given to other areas of our City.
Our area is very unique with a mixture of all ages which also presents many challenges without City
support.
We have made great strides working with our former Council, our Park and Rec Dept. and our PD on
taking back the Peninsula on the 4th of July by working together. This private /public partnership has
also save the City hundreds of thousands of dollars in reduced demand for added officers on that
Holiday making it much safer and more family friendly.
We pushed for the new Hotel on the old City Hall Site that will generate revitalization of the entire Lido
area which had almost become a ghost town and is now being restored, hopefully to it's former glory.
We need to keep moving forward with these improvements as it not only benefits the residents of the
Peninsula and Lido area, it benefits the entire City by producing even more revenue.
Our residents deserve a place to take our four legged friends during the day and a Community Center
for all ages that is local to this area. We also warrant the added officers the City is asking for tonight.
Pull up any "calls for service" on our PD website in our area and note what the residents have to
endure from a constantly transient population of out of town visitors and an over abundance of ABC
licenses with more being added constantly.
I hope as with other Cities the residents will be applauded for their continued work on the
revitalization of our community. You also will be the ones to reap the benefits. I also hope the old
mentality of "you knew what was here when you bought your property" is gone. No one informed us
when we bought our beach house in 2002 about the 5 rehab homes one block up or the hundreds
more in the area, no one informed us about the home owned behind us by a Prison Ministry placing
just released gang members 4 to a room. We are just families like yours trying to better our
community and protect our values and safety.
Respectfully,
Cindy Koller
