HomeMy WebLinkAboutS16 - McFadden Square Centennial Legacy ProjectCITY OF NEWPORT BEACH CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT Agenda Item No. S16 August 8, 2006 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: Library Services Department Linda Katsouleas, Library Services Director (949) 717 -3810, Ikatsouleas @city.newport- beach.ca.us SUBJECT: The McFadden Square Centennial Legacy Project ISSUE: Should the City Council approve, in concept, the Centennial Legacy Project and authorize the McFadden Square Centennial Legacy Committee to raise funds for the project. Staff recommends Council approve the concept of the McFadden Square Centennial Legacy Project and authorize Fundraising Chairman Bernie Svalstad to raise funds for the project. DISCUSSION: Background: The Council reviewed the concept of the McFadden Square Centennial Legacy Project at the April 25, 2006 City Council Study Session. The Council was very supportive of the concept and instructed staff to continue developing the project. A fundraising committee has been formed and pledges of support received. Money received will be deposited in a designated account in the Centennial Trust Fund. A fundraising committee has been formed and pledges of support have been received. The Legacy plan will be implemented in phases. Peridian, who designed the project pro bono, created a flexible Phase I plan which includes granite faced benches and rings to acknowledge Centennial donors.
