RE: Cliff Drive and Kings Place Park Proposal
Dear Mayor Selich and Council Members:
I live at 204 Kings Place and over the past weekend received a letter with
information proposing a plan to build a park on a residential lot at the corner of
Cliff Drive and Kings Place. The letter was asking for attendance at tonight's
council meeting in support of this idea. I am always open to hear additional
information, however at this time my wife and I are strongly against the idea.
am not against parks or development and came to council in support of your
proposal for Sunset Ridge. Additionally, I wrote a letter in support of the newly
built center at PCH and Dover. However, this plan does not make sense for a
two big reasons:
1. Financially. The capital expenditure being asked of the City is neither
reasonable nor justifiable. Not only would the City need to purchase the lot, there
would be an annual loss of substantial property tax of a high end residential
home, which will eventually be built. The maintenance of the Park would also be
an annual expenditure and do not think the City would turn over maintenance to
an association that can go away at any time.
2. Zoning The zoning is for a single family residence, not a park. We currently
have a small park a short walk away on Kings Road. This park is unique in that it
provides great views for the citizens. I do not live directly adjacent to the current
park or the one being proposed, but I did live at 104 Kings Road for a couple
years next to a vacant lot. It was active on that lot year round, but especially
during the summer nights, you can use your imagination, I am just glad my kids'
rooms were on other side of the house. The size of the proposed park will not be
a justifiable amenity to the citizens and we have other great options in the direct
area on Kings Road and a few hundred yards away in Castaways.
I appreciate your diligence on this matter and know you will give it thoughtful
consideration.
Sincerely,
Tom and Suzy Robinson
