SUBJECT: Castaways Park Marines 1/1 Monument — Completion and
Acceptance of Contract No. 4003
Recommendations:
1. Accept the completed work.
2. Authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion.
3. Authorize the City Clerk to release the Labor and Materials bond 35 days after
the Notice of Completion has been recorded in accordance with applicable
portions of the Civil Code.
4. Release the Faithful Performance Bond 1 year after Council acceptance.
Discussion:
On February 26, 2008, the City Council authorized the award of the Castaways Park
Marines 1/1 Monument Project to E.C. Construction. The contract provided for the
removal of existing pavement, installation of new pavers, and construction of the
Marines 1/1 monument and donors' plaque foundations. The installation of the
monument was completed by the artist, Benjamin Victor, and City staff. The contract
has now been completed to the satisfaction of the Public Works Department.
Summaries of the contract cost and schedule are as follows:

Original bid amount: $27,421.75
Actual amount of bid items constructed: $27,046.89
Total amount of change orders: - $1,732.60
Final contract cost: $25,314.29
The change in the final contract cost is primarily due to a reduction in existing pavement
removal due to acceptable existing base material. The change orders resulted in an
approximate eight percent (8 %) reduction compared to the original bid amount.
