SUBJECT: SAN JOAQUIN HILLS ROAD MEDIAN TREES —COMPLETION AND
ACCEPTANCE OF CONTRACT NO. 4008
Recommendations:
1. Accept the completed work.
2. Authorize the.City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion.
3. Authorize the City Clerk to release the Labor and Materials bond 35 days after
the Notice of Completion has been recorded in accordance with applicable
portions of the Civil Code.
4. Release the Faithful Performance Bond 1 year after Council acceptance.
Discussion:
On February 26, 2008, the City Council authorized the award of the San Joaquin Hills
Road Median Trees project to Belaire -West Landscape, Inc. The contract provided for
the planting of 81 Liquidambar styraciflua 'Palo Alto' (Sweetgum) trees. The contract
has now been completed to the satisfaction of the Public Works Department. A
summary of the contract cost is as follows:
Original bid amount: $39,980.00
Actual amount of bid items constructed: $39,980.00
Total amount of change orders: $ 0
Final contract cost: $39,980.00
The actual amount of bid items constructed was the same as the original bid amount.
No change orders were involved with this contract.

A summary of the project schedule is as follows:
Estimated completion date per June `07 schedule: (Not Scheduled)
Project award for construction: February 26, 2008
Estimated completion date at award: May 16, 2008
Actual substantial construction completion date: May 16, 2008
This contract included a 90-day landscape maintenance phase which starts at the
completion of construction. The maintenance phase is not part of the 25 working days
allotted for this contract and has now been

Environmental Review:

The project was determined to be exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act
(CEQA) pursuant to Section 15301 of the CEQA Implementation Guidelines at the time
the project was authorized by the City Council. This exemption covers the repair,
maintenance and minor alteration of existing public facilities with negligible expansion.
Funding Availabilitv:
In addition to the primary construction contract, this project involved other project
expenses. Total project expenses are summarized as follows:
