Harbor View Hills Homeowners Association (South) represents a community of 449 homes in
Corona del Mar. Many homes in our community border directly onto the Middle Buck Gully
Canyon area. As the recent wildfires raged through nearby Yorba Linda and Anaheim Hills, our
residents became increasingly concerned about potential fire hazard to our community from dry
brush and undergrowth in Buck Gully. It was tragic to see the destruction of homes and property
that resulted when Santa Ana winds whipped blazing embers across the 91 Freeway and torched
whole areas bigger in size than our entire development. Many homeowners remember hosing
down their roofs and preparing to evacuate during the Laguna Beach fire in 1993. The homes in
our Association could be gravely affected by a fire in the Middle Buck Gully Canyon Area.
At our annual membership meeting on December 3, 2008, all in attendance were advised that the
City Council was considering adoption of Code Amendments to increase Fire Safety in the Buck
Gully and related Canyons. The membership was adamant that a letter to the City Council from
the Board needed to be written requesting support for these Code Amendments.
On behalf of our homeowners, the HVHS Board of Directors respectfully requests the support of
the City Council regarding approval of the Amendments to the Fire Code presently under
consideration which will increase Fire safety in Buck Gully and related canyons.
Your support of this critical issue will be greatly appreciated.
Respectfully submitted,
Harbor View Hills Homeowners Association (South)
