In October 2009, Newport Beach Public Library was presented with CLA's PR Excellence Award in its budget category for the Corona del Mar 50th Anniversary Celebration Project. 0 50 Years of Service Remembered The project was launched in response to the City Council's initiative to revitalize the small but important Corona del Mar Branch Library. Realizing that July 2009 marked the fiftieth anniversary of this neighborhood treasure, library staff set out to achieve three major public relations goals in conjunction with the anniversary project. Top three public relations goals Reassure the community that the Corona del Mar Branch is a valued part of the NBPL system. Make the surrounding community aware of the revitalized interior, materials and programs at the branch. Attract a large number of people to the weeklong 50th Anniversary Celebration. Revitalizing the Branch More computers added Laptops and desktops updated to a wireless network with increased bandwidth Collection updated, CD and DVD collections moved and old book shelving removed New seating, carpet, paint, and a thorough cleaning Children's room rearranged and collection expanded Late night hours and coffee service added 4I..90d Bright Future ...Historic Past All communications materials were developed with the idea of presenting the Corona del Mar Branch Library in a new light with a bright future built on an historic past. The development of the "Anniversary Logo" incorporated a modernized 50's look with CDM's trademark sun and sea colors. Throughout the years, l have been rewarded by the willingness and enthusiasm of the staff to assist in obtaining my somew hat esoteric requests. We have even shared books that we thought were good reading. I don't remember everyone's names but there area few who are particularly special tome. Each in their individual way has brought something special to the library. I am now in my eighties and I look bark on all your kindness over the past 40 years with appreciation to all of you. Mostly they continue to express gratitude that the City Council listened to their plea to keep their treasured neighborhood library and make it even better. As customer David C. Weber wrote: "This library is indeed golden - -if not platinum! " "This building is notable in that it was financed 80% by donations from residents and a generous gift of library trustee Dorothy Harry. It grew. It has thrived. It has been beloved and treasured. Thank you all."
