Agenda Item No. 6
September 2, 1997
To: Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission
From: General Services Director
Subject: Bench Donation - Newport Hills Garden Club
Recommendation
To accept one concrete bench donation from the Newport Hills Garden Club
that will be installed at Buffalo Hills Park at Port Provence with the verbiage
and size of the donor plaque conforming to City Council policy.
Discussion
Staff received the attached letter from Mses. Elizabeth Lewis and Jean
Naughton of the Newport Hills Garden Club requesting the approval of one
bench donation for Buffalo Hills Park. Staff feels that the proposed location is
in an area of the Park that needs a bench based on the many activities in the
immediate vicinity. The bench style is on the City's Official Bench List and
has been installed at many City facilities. A photo of the proposed bench is
attached.
Additionally, staff contacted Mr. Patrick M. Digiacomo, President of the Harbor
View Community Association relative to the proposed donation. Mr.
Digiacomo sent the attached letter supporting the donation.
Mses. Lewis and Naughton, Mr. Digiacomo, and the property owners within
300 feet of the proposed bench donation have received a copy of this report and
a notice of the September 2 Parks, Beaches, and Recreation Commission
meeting.
Very respectfully,
David E. Niederhaus
