COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
The Parks, Beach & Recreation Commission
City of Newport Beach December 20, 1997
3300 Newport Blvd.
Newport Beach, Calif. 92658
Members of the Commission...
Our Community feels that a Park to achieve its most
beneficial and over -all use for the People of Newport Beach, should be more than
just dead trees, wood covered ttmsIiazLrd areas and so passive that very few of
our Citizens can obtain a complete enjoyment when using the Park.
A City Park should cater to the desires of all Citizens,, not just the' ideas and
wishes of a vociferous minority group or individual!
We have suggested in the past when the development of the "Passive" Castaways
• Public Park was in the design stage that after the basic layout and walking paths
areas are complete that consideration should be given to subsequent stages of en-
hancement such as the addition of a few Public comfort items. Such as a few benches
and shade tres -where appropriatn. Also considering the exceptional views from this
Parks location, the placement of a couple of Gazebos in key locations would be
effective, such as used in other City's Parks. ( See enclosure illustrations )
Your consideration of our Community's suggestions would be appreciated and provide a
more comprehensive use by the Citizens of Newport Beach rather than a restrive min-
imum use.
P.S. - Considering its possibilities, Sincerely... 6# W
we hope City Officials will take the opportunity E. P. Benson, President
to make this park's development the most outstan- Dover Shores Community Association
ding in the City's inventory of Parks.
