1. Staff continued coordinating construction projects regarding Bonita Canyon Park,
Bonita Creels Park Sewer Project, Seashore Street End Improvement Project, and
the Irvine Avenue Median Improvement Project with the Public Works
Department.
2. Staff completed irrigation systems renovation and' plant replacements at various
sites.
3. American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) paid for supplemental aerification
and fertilization at the Lincoln Athletic Center and staff coordinated the work.
Additionally, AYSO funded contract sod improvements at various City soccer
fields.
4. Staff installed soccer field lines, placed soccer goals, bleachers, and placed all
portable baseball backstops into storage for the upcoming soccer season.
Upcoming Activities for September
1. The planting of replacement shrubs and ground covers will continue Citywide.
1. Staff will continue to. monitor the Fletcher Jones and Arches Mitigation Sites in the
Big Canyon area.
2. Staff will continue coordinating the annual control of rodents by contract services.
3. Staff will work with the Public Works Department to initiate the contract
replacement of deteriorated asphalt walks in Eastbluff Park.
4. Aerification and top dressing will occur on the Peninsula Park athletic field.

. Tree Division Activities
During the month of August, 880 trees were trimmed, no trees were removed, 25 trees
were planted, 6 emergency calls were responded to regarding trees and the Urban
Forester received 181 tree maintenance requests.
1. The City tree- trimming contractor, West Coast Arborists, completed work within
the Corona del Mar and Buffalo Hills areas.
2. The Urban Forester coordinated the Citywide Sidewalk Replacement Program
with the General Services Department Concrete Supervisor. This involved the
Urban Forester inspecting City street trees as related to sidewalk repairs.
3. The Urban Forester received 14 tree removal requests and after a field inspection
determined the requests did not meet the City Council Policy G -1 for tree
removals. Additionally, each property owner received a letter indicating the trees
would be retained and their option of appeal to the Commission.
