Beach, throughout 1999. Approximately 260 teams were scheduled for league play. Participants

• Sports Camp - The Holiday Kids Sports Camp at the Community Youth Center in Corona del Mar
kicked off its 2nd year on December 20. Two, four day sessions, 10am - 4pm, were offered over
the holiday break with children enjoying a variety of crafts, games and sports activities
throughout the day. Community Service Department Recreation Leaders and Youth Coaches
taught children the fundamentals of popular sports such as basketball, flag football, soccer,
court hockey, softball, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, broomball and more. Both sessions were
fully enrolled, doubling enrollment from last year.
Facilities
Field Repair - Work started in early December to repair softball, baseball, football and soccer
fields at Bonita Creek Park and Lincoln Athletic Center. Thousands of games are played year -

will begin in March or April.

seating. As part of the entry fee, participants receive a continental breakfast before the

Snow Day - The annual Winter Wonderland snow day was a tremendous success. Over 600
participants created holiday arts and crafts, played in the snow and created snow creatures.
The hit of the party was Santa arriving via a fire engine. The Newport Harbor Elks Club makes
the event possible with their generous donation.

• Youth Sports Commission - The Commission met on December 9 to set the field use schedule for
the March 1 through June 30, 2000 season. Representatives from AYSO, Little League, Bobby

regarding a proposal for park use for part of the Marinapark Property. A report is being
