SUBJECT: BUDGET APPROPRIATION REQUEST FOR REPLACEMENT OF
STORM DAMAGED TRAFFIC SIGNAL CABINET
ISSUE
During the rain and wind storms of January 2010, the Newport Coast Drive /Pelican Hills
Road North traffic signal cabinet was damaged by a fallen tree. The City was
reimbursed for damages by the storm, but the traffic signal cabinet has not been
replaced.
Approve Budget amendment No. 11 BA- recognizing new revenue from the State
Emergency Management Agency and appropriating $24,000.00 to 5200 -82003 to
replace the damaged traffic signal cabinet.
DISCUSSION
During the January 2010 storms, a fallen tree damaged the traffic signal cabinet and
electronics within the cabinet. In order to maintain operation of the intersection, Staff
temporarily repaired the traffic signal and replaced the damaged electronics with spare
equipment. The temporary fix was planned to be in place until a replacement
cabinet /equipment could be installed.
While reviewing damage for the California Emergency Management Agency storm
reimbursement, the cost of the replacement cabinet was included in the claim. As the
City has since received reimbursement for the storm damage, Staff requests a budget
appropriation of $24,000.00 to replace the damaged equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
Staff recommends the City Council find this action is not subject to the California
Environmental Quality Act ( "CEQA ") pursuant to Sections 15060(c)(2) (the activity will
