Confirm Mayor Selich's appointments of Jeff Herdman to the District 5 position, and Vincent Lepore to the District 5 At -Large position. 2. Confirm Council member Gardner's appointment of Nick Roussos to the District 6 position. 3. Confirm other appointments of Council members to District and At -Large positions. DISCUSSION: Council member Gardner has advised staff that she wishes to appoint Nick Roussos to the District 6 position on EQAC. All members of EQAC serve at the pleasure of the City Council, and other Council members may wish to make new appointments. The current EQAC roster is attached for the Council's information. DISCUSSION: Resolution 2008 -34 establishes EQAC and provides membership categories and terms. The Chairperson is to be a citizen (at large) appointed by the Mayor. The current Chairperson is Kenneth Drellishak. District members who reside in each City Council district, and At -Large members who need not reside in a particular district, are to be nominated by the Council members and confirmed by the City Council. These terms run with the terms of the nominating Council members. Council members Rosansky (District 2), Selich (District 5) and Curry (District 7) are beginning new terms of office, and have the opportunity to re- appoint sitting members of EQAC or make new appointments. The following people are currently serving: District At -Large District 2 Kevin Kelly Merritt Van Sant District 5 Vacant . Robert Rush District 7 Joan Penfil Arlene Greer Resolution 2008 -34 also provides for Community Association and Environmental Expertise members, who are eligible to serve two, four -year terms. There is currently one vacancy in each of these two categories. In addition, one member in the Appointments to EQAC January 13, 2009 Page 2 Community Association category, Barry Allen, has a term that will expire in February 2009. The Resolution provides that these members are to be appointed by the City Council from recommendations from EQAC. Staff will include filling these vacancies on the agenda for EQAC's meeting of January 26, 2009. My 32 year entrepreneurial career as a luggage manufacturer and wholesaler required full -time focus and extensive business travel. Coupled with the demands of raising a family I had little time for civic pursuits. In 2002 after 29 years as cofounder and president of Andiamo Inc., the O.C. based manufacturer of ANDIAMO branded travel products, I sold my business to a foreign competitor. I went on to become that company's U.S. division president until choosing to resign in 2006 and leave the luggage industry. Later that year I accomplished a long planned career change by joining Myers - Erickson Properties, Inc., founded by my father, Isidore Myers. Our company owns, develops and manages industrial & commercial properties throughout O.C. that are a credit to their communities. For many years I had the opportunity to participate in the company's investments and gain regular exposure to the real estate business. I now have the great fortune to both live and work in Newport Beach. After decades of traveling 30% to 40% of the year nationally & internationally, I am happy that my business travel today is limited to O.C. My family is growing up; the youngest of our three daughters will soon graduate high school.
