SUBJECT: Initiation of General Plan Amendment related to
Coastal Land Use Plan Amendment No. 2007 -001
ISSUE
Should the City Council initiate an amendment of the General Plan to change the land
use designations of properties within 11 areas of the City within the coastal zone in
response to the Coastal Commission's modification of Coastal Land Use Plan
Amendment No. 2007 -001?
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a Resolution initiating an amendment of the General Plan to change the land use
designations of properties within 11 areas of the Coastal Zone.
DISCUSSION
On February 5, 2009, the California Coastal Commission approved the City's amendment
of the Coastal Land Use Plan (LC2007 -001) while making 50 suggested modifications.
Eleven (11) of the modifications reject the proposed land use categories for 11 geographic
areas that were a part of the 2006 General Plan Update. Should the City Council choose
to accept these changes, the land use designations within the Land Use Element of the
General Plan will need to be modified so the Coastal Land Use Plan and the Land Use
Element are consistent.
