SUBJECT: CENTRAL COUNTY CORRIDOR MAJOR INVESTMENT STUDY
DISCUSSION:
The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is currently preparing the Central County
Corridor Major Investment Study ( CCCMIS), a planning effort that is intended to identify travel
demand and transportation system needs in the year 2035 for central Orange County.
The CCCMIS study area is bounded by Ball Road on the north, Coast Highway on the south,
Beach Boulevard on the west, and the Costa Mesa freeway (SR -55) to the east. Given the
study scope and area limits, the CCCMIS includes the policy and/or technical participation of up
to twelve municipalities, as well as other agencies of jurisdiction. Public Works staff has been
attending the regular technical working group meetings for the study. Staff has reviewed the
draft reports and provided input as it relates to our General Plan transportation system.
Different alternatives will be evaluated in the study including strategies to improve the efficiency
of the existing transportation system, moderate expansion of the existing transportation system,
expansion of the SR -55, and alternatives to extend the SR -57 freeway within the Santa Ana
River right -of -way from just north of the Santa Ana Freeway (1 -5) to the San Diego Freeway
(405).
Over the course of the next several weeks, technical analysis and recommendations, as well as
public feedback on these initial strategies, will be provided to the CCCMIS Policy Advisory
Committee, the OCTA Highways Committee, and the OCTA Board of Directors. Ultimately this
process is intended to result in the adoption of a locally preferred strategy (LPS) by the OCTA
Board of Directors. This LPS will serve as a guide for central Orange County existing and future
transportation needs.
One of the representatives from the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) will be at
the Council meeting to provide an overview and update of the Central County Corridor Major
Investment Study.
