CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT
Agenda Item No. 13
January 25, 2011
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: Fire Department
Mike Morgan, 644 -3101, mmorgan @nbfd.net
SUBJECT: Purchase of 2011 Junior Lifeguard Program Uniforms
RECOMMENDATION:
Award the 2011 City of Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard Program uniform purchase to
Quiksilver, for the total cost of $138,600, plus tax.
BACKGROUND:
The eight suppliers that were invited to participate in the RFP process for the 2011
Junior Lifeguard uniform purchase either participated in previous years or requested to
be included for 2011. Three Vendors, Quiksilver, Original Waterman, and Volcom
were responsive to the bidding process, although one bid was incomplete. Two of the
three suppliers can provide what we consider excellent quality for what our participants
have come to expect from our Junior Lifeguard Program. Through an established review
process, we carefully looked at sample uniforms, the quotes, reference checks, and
past performance dealing with the City and our Program. Quiksilver's bid was the lowest
complete bid in price and met, or exceeded, all of our requirements.
We are confident that Quiksilver will provide the Junior Lifeguard Program with a
contemporary, durable product that will satisfy our participants and their discerning
parents.
Funding Availability:
Self- funded through Junior Lifeguard Program registration fees.
