Re: Letter of Support of Peter Zak
Dear Mayor Selich and Honorable Councilmembers:
On behalf of the Building Industry Association, Orange County Chapter
please accept this letter as support of Peter Zak for a vacant position on
the Newport Beach Planning Commission.
Peter Zak would be an excellent addition to your planning commission.
Peter's understanding of the city and his expertise in the civic process

Newport Beach. Additionally, Peter's professional background and his
many years in project management and entitlements give him directly
relevant experience in planning.
Furthermore, as a prior auditor with one of the nation's most prestigious
accounting firms, Peter's financial expertise will offer the commission an
important and valuable set of skills needed when reviewing complex
projects before the city.
Again, on behalf of the Building Industry Association, Orange County
Chapter please accept this letter of support of Peter Zak for a vacant
position on the Newport Beach Planning Commission.

Subject: Planning Commission Appointment - Debra Stevens
Honorable Mayor and City Council Members,
I am writing to support the appointment of Debra Stevens to the Newport Beach Planning
Commission, based on her professional qualifications and volunteer positions within the City. With
over 33 years as an environmental planner, she brings an expertise that would greatly benefit the
Commission and our community in evaluating and rendering decisions on planning and development
proposals. Ms. Stevens has also shown her commitment to our community as a current member of
the City's Environmental Committee and as Vice President of the Corona del Mar Residents'
Association.
I hope you will agree that Debra Stevens will be an asset to the City and appoint her to the Planning
Commission. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Carol n Martin

Kevin:
Since I have only briefly met you (at the Corona Del Mar Residents Association Forum before the elections), I would like
to provide a little background on myself. I am very excited to be a finalist for the Newport Beach Planning
Commission. As part owner of an environmental consulting firm for over 30 years, I have extensive experience in
planning and environmental compliance. Our firm represents various types of businesses (e.g., industrial, commercial,
schools, manufacturing, etc.) to obtain land use and environmental clearance prior to project approval and have
appeared before various city, county, regional, state and federal agencies to advocate on behalf of our clients. My
education and work experience have provided a broad experience in planning and the environmental field, specifically
preparing documents in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), preparing applications and
studies in compliance with land use/zoning/air quality rules and regulations, preparing health risk assessments,
preparing coastal development permits, and fostering compliance with hazardous waste regulations. This experience
would be helpful on the Planning Commission in reviewing projects and various issues that could impact the City of
Newport Beach. Having served on EQAC for six years, it has been interesting to review projects important to the
Newport Beach community and serving on the Planning Commission would provide an opportunity to serve the
community even further while incorporating the expertise gained in over 30 years on the job. Additionally, serving as
vice president of the Corona Del Mar Residents Association helps keep me and other residents informed on issues
relevant to our community.
It would be an honor to serve on the Planning Commission and continue to work towards balancing development with
planning and land use requirements. It would be my goal to assure that every applicant that appears before the
Planning Commission is given a fair, unbiased review of their project in light of all applicable zoning, general plan and
other land use requirements, balancing business and community concerns. I would appreciate your consideration of my
appointment to the Planning Commission. Thank you and if you have any further questions, please feel free to contact

Hello Mr. Muldoon,
My name is Bret Hanson and I wanted to introduce myself as a Corona del Mar resident and an applicant for 2015
Planning Commission.. I am reaching out to you and other Council members in efforts to start building relationships.
I am a young professional who has built a 10 year career in the building industry with spanning local and international
projects. I have also been involved with a variety of volunteer and professional organizations - currently sitting on our
local U.S. Green Building Council OC Board and also our USGBC National Chapter Steering Committee Board. I was
inspired with your campaign on being fiscally responsible and your variety of experiences in law. As a young adult, its
refreshing to see Newport elect someone with a younger and honest voice.
Originally from the Midwest, my wife and I have been residents of CdM for 7 years and helped build a strong
neighborhood on Larkspur Avenue. We even host a Friday night Sunset (every Friday during Spring/Summer) at Larkspur
and Ocean Blvd, named Larkspuria. We are starting a family soon and I want to translate our love of Newport Beach into
action. Just like you, I want to preserve the Newport Beach quality of life so that people 50 years from now can enjoy
what people 50 years ago did.

I would enjoy hearing yourgoals for Newport Beach on how we can be more fiscally responsible and plan a smarter
future for Newport Beach.
