Conceptual Plan
City Council Study Session
September 13, 2011
The Proposed "What if" Concept
• Ongoing efforts for the Consolidation of Corporation
Yard (Superior Ave.) with the Utilities Yard (16th St.)
could free up portions or all of the 8 acre parcel.
• Potential Relocation of the Police Department & a
new Community Center on the former Corporation
Yard site.
• Consolidation of MOD & PD Fleet Maintenance.
• Greenbelt for special events and public art.
• Potential connection to Hoag Health Center.
Why do this?
• Consolidation of the two yards increases efficiencies
and resources
(already
underway with
the merging
of Utilities
and
General
Services
Depts
to
MOD)
• Building a replacement Police Department facility at
a new site allows continuity of Police operations
• Consolidation of community centers allows a more
robust facility (Newport Coast size) for West Newport
• Potential revenue stream from residual parcels, West
Newport Community Center (15th St) & former Police
Dept (Santa Barbara ) will offset construction costs.
