SUBJECT: 2002 -2003 TRAFFIC SIGNAL UPGRADES - COMPLETION AND
ACCEPTANCE OF CONTRACT NO. 3529
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Accept the work.
2. Authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion.
3. Authorize the City Clerk to release the Labor and Materials bond 35 days after the
Notice of Completion has been recorded in accordance with applicable portions of
the Civil Code.
4. Release the Faithful Performance Bond 1 year after Council acceptance.
DISCUSSION:
On June 25, 2002, the City Council authorized the award of the Traffic Signal Upgrades
contract to F.J. Johnson, Inc. of Riverside, California. The contract provided for
furnishing and installing light emitting diode (LED) indications, battery backup systems,
emergency vehicle premeption, and traffic signal interconnect at various traffic signal
controlled intersections. The contract has now been completed to the satisfaction of
the Public Works Department. A summary of the contract cost is as follows:
Original bid amount: $303,759.00
Actual amount of bid items constructed: $303,759.00
Total amount of change orders: $9,597.86
Final contract cost: $313,356.86
One lump sum change order in the amount of $9,597.86 provided for the repair of traffic
signal conduit and conductors, replacement of miscellaneous traffic signal hardware,
and the furnishing and installation of additional LED indications.
