SUBJECT: MARINERS LIBRARY STATUS REPORT
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive and file.
DISCUSSION:
The Mariners Library project is on schedule and within budget parameters. A
schematic design, specifications, and supporting documents package was submitted to
the State Library Office of Construction on July 2, 2003. The State's Facilities
Consultant has a 3 -5 week window period to comment and return the plans. The City
had minimal comments on the grant submittal documents and is planning for the same
at this level of review. The first invoice for reimbursement will be submitted to the State
Library Board before the end of the month.
All library safety features and enhancements are intact as submitted in the original
grant application. The interior and exterior colors, materials, and textures have been
chosen by the Library Working Group and then approved by the Library Ad Hoc
Committee. Material boards will be available at the Council meeting for review.
The following is a list of the changes that have been incorporated into the submittal
while refining the design for the new library:
The existing mature trees along Irvine Boulevard will be saved by increasing the
landscape setback between the street and the parking lot, which also caused the
parking area and building to shift to the east.
• The southern driveway has been moved outside the project boundary to align
with the median break in Irvine Avenue. This driveway will be positioned across
school property and staff is working on finalizing a Grant of Easement with the

School District. The easement has already been conceptually approved by the
District, City, Working Groups, and Committee members.
• The area of the floor plan has increased from 15,125 sq. ft. to 15,305 sq. ft due
to design refinement.

behind the Fire Station in Mariners Park. The tennis court project will begin
