In the proposed policy revision, service lives have been adjusted upward, new categories added, and some categories of vehicles/ equipment were removed City Council Policy F-9 City Vehicle/Equipment Replacement Guidelines Fire Equipment Engines Current: 10 Years (No Allowance for Reserve Status) Proposed : 13 Years (Frontline) 5-7 Years (Reserve) Trucks (Ladders and Quints) Current: 15 Years (No Allowance for Reserve Status) Proposed : 15 Years (Frontline) 10-15 Years (Reserve) City Council Policy F-9 City Vehicle/Equipment Replacement Guidelines Fire Equipment Paramedic Vans/Ambulances Current: 80,000 miles/6 years (No Allowance for Reserve Status) Proposed : 100,000 miles/8 years (Frontline) 4 Years (Reserve) City Council Policy F-9 City Vehicle/Equipment Replacement Guidelines Police Equipment Police Patrol/Traffic Vehicles Current: 75,000 miles/4 years Proposed : No change Police Motorcycles Current: 60,000 miles/5 years Proposed : 75,000 miles/5 years Police Detective/Plain Vehicles (New Category) Proposed : 80,000 miles/8 years City Council Policy F-9 City Vehicle/Equipment Replacement Guidelines MOD also uses these guidelines to set replacement "rental" rates for equipment; these are the annual fees that using departments pay into the Equipment Replacement Fund . These accumulated funds are used for the ultimate replacement of each vehicle or piece of equipment. City Council Policy F-9 City Vehicle/Equipment Replacement Guidelines The proposed changes to the replacement guidelines allow a reduction in annual vehicle contributions, since the replacement cost is funded over a longer period of time . We estimate that these changes will save the General and Enterprise (Water and Wastewater) Funds approximately $ 1,039,000 each year.
