City Council Policy F-9
City Vehicle/Equipment Replacement Guidelines
F-9 Policy delineates the expected service life of
City vehicles and equipment
Vehicles and equipment are categorized by type
and most categories have both miles (or hours)
and years of service guidelines
City Council Policy F-9
City Vehicle/Equipment Replacement Guidelines
The Policy was last revised in 2001
Since that time, vehicle reliability has improved
and budget shortfalls and mandates such as CNG
fueling led us to keep vehicles longer

MOD staff worked with users, including public
safety departments, to determine viable
vehicle/equipment lifespans to maximize usage
but minimize downtime .
In the proposed policy revision, service lives
have been adjusted upward, new categories
added, and some categories of vehicles/
equipment were removed

MOD also uses these guidelines to set
replacement "rental" rates for equipment; these
are the annual fees that using departments pay
into the Equipment Replacement Fund .
These accumulated funds are used for the
ultimate replacement of each vehicle or piece of
equipment.

The proposed changes to the replacement
guidelines allow a reduction in annual vehicle
contributions, since the replacement cost is
funded over a longer period of time .
We estimate that these changes will save the
General and Enterprise (Water and Wastewater)
Funds approximately $ 1,039,000 each year.
