The tour went very well and was well attended. The day was very warm and the air conditioner on the bus was not up to par. Commission Chair Robyn Grant reported on the upcoming sale of works from the Lenahan Estate at the art sale at Mariners Park on June 25. She noted that Carole Boller and Arlene Cartozian assisted with sorting through the large number of works donated. Grant said that at a recent Foundation meeting she had attended it was suggested by Lila Crespin that if the Foundation members would be handling sales, they would expect the Arts Commissioners to operate a booth, including paying for a space, bringing equipment to the park and loading and unloading the work. Commissioners Trela, Grant, Brooks, Smith and Goldberg were expected to take shifts in the booth. Staff would look into the propriety of paying the Arts Foundation $75.00 for a booth. Grant asked the commissioners if they were willing to take this on. Discussion ensued regarding the amount that could be raised. Commissioners discussed a table, canopy and card table. The schedule for manning the booth was set: Grant and Trela to be there from 7:30- 2 11:00; Goldberg would be there from 11-2:30; and Smith would be there from 2:30-6:00pm. A suggestion was made to ask the Foundation for an invoice for $75.00. Commissioner Boller brought some photographs of the Newport Beach Art Exhibition and Sale that had been given to her. She stated that a date had been set for the 2012 event for April 14 at Oasis Senior Center. Commissioners discussed curating 10-12 selected Lenahan Estate paintings that would be kept by the City. Several fine art restoration and conservation companies had been contacted including Phil Longridge, “Art Works”, “Derby Williams Fine Art Restoration & Conservation”, and “SB Conservation LLC”. Commissioners provided a list of services from each company and discussion ensued regarding the pros and cons of each. Following this discussion it was MSP (Smith/Brooks) to “Accept the bid from Derby Williams for curating the 10-12 selected Lenahan Estate Paintings”. New Business – Commissioner Brooks announced that she had spent a lot of time at the 2011 Film Festival and wanted to know why the Arts Commission’s logo said “Sponsored in part by the Newport Beach City Arts Commission” instead of “Sponsored by the City Arts Commission”.
