Re: Cultural Arts Activities for April 2014
Corona Del Mar Residents Meeting
Along with Chair Goldberg and Vice Chair Greer, I attended the Corona del Mar Residents Association
Annual Meeting at Sherman Library & Gardens on Wednesday, April 16th, bringing information and
handouts about both the Cultural Arts programs presented by the City Arts Commission and the
Newport Beach Public Library programs and services.
New Hilbert Collection Art Installed at Central Library
The City Arts Commission installed a new series of California Scene Paintings as part of the rotating
exhibition courtesy of Mark and Janet Hilbert, local residents who have an extraordinary collection of art
that they generously share with the public. The watercolors on exhibit include Diver’s Cove by
Alexandra Bradshaw, Spring in the Valley by Ralph Hulett, East Side by Jack Laycox, Romantic
Bridges by Emil Kosa, Jr., and San Francisco Earthquake by Nick Brigante. The watercolors were
created during the great regional art movement of the 1930s to 1960s era. Well worth a look.
Art Exhibition Entries
Entries for the 2014 Newport Beach Art Exhibition continue to pour in. Nearly 50 artists have submitted
Call for Entry applications already so we expect it to be a great show of original works by artists from
throughout the region. The Call for Entries brochure and entry form for the Newport Beach Art
Exhibition is available at Newport Beach Public Library branches as well as City Hall and Oasis Senior
Center. Information and entry forms are also available on the Cultural Arts website at
www.newportbeachca.gov/culturalarts.
We are already receiving calls and entries so it looks like it will be a great show of original works by
talented regional artists.
