ABSTRACT: The Cultural Arts Division’s current procedure is for artists to submit a completed Application for Review and Consideration of Art to display their art in the Lobby Gallery in the Central Library. The Fine Arts Committee meets to review submissions and accepts art for display, and determines the schedule for displayed art . Staff notifies the artists and arranges the hanging of the art. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Arts Commission approve the artists recommended for display by the Fine Arts Committee. FUNDING REQUIREMENTS: No funding requirement. DISCUSSION: The City of Newport Beach maintains two exhibit spaces at the Central Library. The Lobby Gallery in the Central Library has approximately 38 feet of linear wall space designed for two-dimensional pieces of art. Additionally, artists may apply to exhibit three-dimensional works in the two display cabinets added to the lobby of Central Library in 2010. The display cases are approximately 24” high x 24” deep x 24” wide. Prior to May 2013, all gallery spaces were administered by the Cultural Arts Coordinator. The gallery space is now managed by the Library Services Director. The City Arts Commission’s Fine Arts Ad Hoc Subcommittee meets periodically to review artist's submissions; and artists are notified by mail of acceptance. Art exhibitions have been scheduled for at least one year in advance for all exhibit locations. Artists who want their work considered for display submit a completed Application for Review and Consideration of Art . Typically, the Fine Arts Committee considers the applications en masse.
