TITLE: Cultural Arts Activities for January 2015
Okazaki Statue installation: Since November 1984, the City of Newport Beach has enjoyed a Sister City
relationship with the City of Okazaki, Japan. The City of Okazaki donated a sculpture entitled “Shogun
Tokugawa Ieyasu” as a gift to the City of Newport Beach on October 14, 2014 to commemorate the 30
year relationship between the two cities. The piece was installed at its permanent site at Irvine Terrace
Park on Tuesday, January 20.
Concerts on the Green: Pending City Arts Commission approval, this summer’s Sunday concert series
will feature Stone Soul (soul music revue) on June 7, Sligo Rags (Celtic/bluegrass fusion) on July 12, and
Britain’s Finest (Beatles tribute) on September 27th.
Shakespeare By The Sea: This year’s plays are The Tempest on Saturday, July 18th and As You Like It on
Sunday, July 19th at Bonita Canyon Sports Park.
Exhibitions in the Central Library: The following artists were recommended by the Fine Arts Committee
and approved by the Arts Commission and are scheduled to have their work displayed in the Central
Library lobby:
• Agnes Schenk (April)
• Raymond Otis (May/June)
• Ting-Ting Lee (September/October)
