The library will debut the work of this talented 87-year old local artist in her first-ever exhibition titled Spring Spectacular – Flowers Rediscovered. An artist reception will be held Thursday, April 16 from 5-7 p.m. in the Friends Meeting Room at the Central Library. Artist Agnes Schenk, or “Aggie” as she prefers to be called, returned to her love for oil paint, brushes and canvas when she retired from a fashion design career thirty years ago. Aggie, who lives in Laguna Beach, studied under several master painters such as local artists Frank Tarallo, Bill Alexander who introduced her to big brushes and slapping on paint, and Gary Jenkins who showed her how to work wet into wet, painting realistic large flower paintings. At 87, Aggie still attends painting classes twice a week and works on her exquisite paintings. The exhibition showcases a selection of original oils on canvas, primarily of vibrant floral subjects. The art exhibit is free and open to the public during library hours April 3 - April 30. Hours are as follows: Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Sunday, 12-5 p.m. Fine Art Exhibitions at Central Library: The following artists are scheduled for exhibitions in the Central Library gallery space: May 2015: Raymond Otis July 2015: Richard Bohn September/October 2015: Ting Ting Lee December 2015/January 2016: Charlotte Lerner Call For Entries: Sculpture In The Civic Center Park Exhibition – Phase II The City of Newport Beach (City) is pleased to announce a call for entries for Round II of its inaugural Sculpture in Civic Center Park exhibition. Artists, private collectors, galleries and museums/non-profit institutions are invited to submit pre-existing artworks for consideration for temporary exhibition at the City’s Civic Center Park. This is a unique opportunity for artworks to be exhibited at the recently completed Newport Beach Civic Center and displayed in the serene, ocean-view park that is free and open to the public. The 2015 call for artworks seeks ten more sculptures to be added to the park in August 2015 so that both sets of sculptures will be displayed together for a period of one year. In September 2016, the first round of artworks will be de-installed. The second round of artworks will remain installed until September 2017.
