Staff recommends that the City Arts Commission appoint two members of the Commission to serve as
non-voting Directors of the Arts Foundation for a term of 1 year, per Article V, Section 4 of the Newport
Beach Arts Foundation Bylaws. The Chair of the City Arts Commission will also serve as an ex-officio,
non-voting Director of the Board.
FUNDING REQUIREMENTS:
No funding requirement.
DISCUSSION:
Article V, Section 4 of the Newport Beach Arts Foundation Bylaws stipulates that the Chair of the City
Arts Commission shall be an ex-officio, non-voting Director of the corporation. In addition, two
members of the City Arts Commission, appointed by the City Arts Commission, shall be non-voting
Directors and shall each serve a term of 1 year.
This provision of the bylaws has not been followed in recent years. Staff feels that an active City Arts
Commission presence and participation in the Newport Beach Arts Foundation Board is to the mutual
benefit of both the Foundation and the Commission.
