Seymour Beek is the champion
of the Harbor's Snowbird skippers,
havi.ng won the Gold "S'' series by
the narrow margin of 1 ~ points
over Bob Haldennan. Seymour is
taft commodore of the Balboa
Island Yacht Club and Bob is com-
modore-elect.
Third place was won by John
Parke and fourth by Bruce Twich·
ell, both of the Newport Harbor
Yacht Club.

one ot the most exciting events of
the season.
A new course, unfamiUar to all
the skippers. was laid out by the
Race Committee of the Snowbird
, Class Yacht Racing Association.
• Eighteen Snowbirds, slx from each
ot the three fleets in the Harbor,
raced five races to detennine the
1949 champions.
The first race, Saturday after-
noon, was won by Ann Rawlins of 1
the Balboa Yacht Club. She had
the distinction not only of being
the first winner but the only girl
to place first.
The second race was won by
Fred Miller of NHYC. who left the
rest of the fleet far behind him in
the longest lead taken in any race.
Both of the Saturday races were
run in exceedingly light wind. and
the young skippers were unani-
mous in agreement with the race
rommittee that the third race
scheduled for Saturday be defer-
red to Sunday morning in hope of
better wind.
