ment of somt' 50,000 Scouts and
leaders. along with the accompany·

The Carlisles and Mr. Balder-
ston tried for the heavier species,
the black marlln. but were unsuc-cessful in landing one. The cur-
rent world record black marlin.
caught in the Bay of Islands. New
Zealand, by Capt. L. MHchell,
weighed 926 pounds.
While fiahing ln Otehel Bay in
the Bay ot Islands, the Newport
Harbor ttio'saw one black marlin
boated by a native. This marUn,
although mutilated and partially
eaten by sharks. still weighed 742 pounds.
Mr. Balderston said that ln New
Zealand food was plentiful and
cheap. Top grade meat was 25
cents a pound, best butter 19 cents
a pound. A haircut cost 12%cents.
Whiskey was two drinks tor a
quarter. However. a Bulck auto-
mobile sold for $9.000, a Cadillac
for $15,000.
