It comes a.s a surprise to many people that this physical material beauty la not e.nough to fill out a well rounded progTam of exist ence. Many of our citi2lens are older people who have come here to retire and have moved away from intimate friends. Often it is found to be difficult to pick up Ufe a nd start anew. The plans to foUow the things that there was never time for rarely materialize because it is incrt'as· ingly harder to start new skills and hobbles. A rCO'eation center designed apedflcally for elderly people would fill many needs. It could be a meeting place for new acquaint- ances and for old friends. There would be conventional card games. chess, checkers, shutrleboard. cro- quet. and the like as well a.s a large hall for lectures and other affairs. This center would provide the much needed social life that ls lacking for a great many isolated individuals who have difficulty in maldng friends. It ia widely thought that ha' ms: the beaches berc should pro,·ide recreation for t'V<'rybody.
