home on 20-day emergency leave
all the way from Japan.
"DadclY'' is Lt. Tom Gibson, for-
mer pastor of St. Andrews Pres-
byterian Church. wbo has been on
active duty with the navy u chap-
lain on the USS ML McKinley.
He flew from Tokyo in 32 hours,
arriving at hll Costa Mesa home
Saturday, Sept. 20. Four days
later a daughter, thelr first child,
was bom to LL and Mrs. Gibson
a t St. Joseph Hospital. The little

The plaque will read "Corona
del Mar Civic Association." Les-
ter Jones. president of the auocla-
tion. and Bob CaUls, chaJnnan of
the hospital committee for this
district. are both expressing their
appreciation to the worken and
donon. Three large donations, one
for $2,500 and two for $1 ,000,
given by Corona del Mar residents
aided greatly ln boostlng our to-
tal. Many other gifts ranglng

add it all up.

It is the Southwest Exploration Company
that drills and operates t~ tideland wells-
under leases granted after open, competitive
bidding, by the state to prevent the drainage
of oil by weJJs on privately owned property
on the adjacent shores. Development of this
unique operation has attracted world-wide
interest.

construction and maintenance of bridges and
roads-to pay for police and fire prottcrion-
for equipment maintenance of play ground
facil ities-for building schools and for the
paying of teachers-for the consrruajon of
public buildings and salaries of the people
needed to conduct the affairs of the Com-
munity.
NatUrally nobody enjoys paying taxes, but
it is gratifying to us to conuibute so much to
the community in which you and we and our
employees live and work. We believe we are
