Where else in. the world can you find a nation or COWltry that can call its ruler a llar and get away with it than ln these United States! Referrlng, or COUI'Se', to President Tru- man's veto labor remarks and its authors, Taft and HartJey, denouncing him as a prevaricator, vWona.ry, one-s.lded and opposing the majority. U this-hapPened In a totalitarian state the op- position would long ere this have been hustled orr to prison or they would just dis- appear. Sentiment on tbe tax veto was more evenly divided than on the labor veto, which had a clear ma- jority in c ongress and Jeemed to be opposed more by union chieftains than by the rank and file. As In every other powerful organi- atlon a few thugs and rough necks cast the odium on the vast. silent majority, while the leaders usurp their au· thority a nd believe their foJ. Jowers all endorse their methods. + + • In refiecting on the pro- visions of the Wagner A ct and the claim that the New Deel was responsible, it should be remembered that everything Roosevelt finish- was started under Republi- can administrations, such as the R.F.C.. the first half- billion farm relief bill, ex- panding feredal b u r e a u s, commissions and regulations, ordering business men to give employes a flat ten per- cent wage increase. 'destroy- ing food to create artificial prices for same and the graduated income tax. What party was it that established the old comrnt.Dlist slogan, "From every man atXXII'd- lng to hJs capacity. To every man according to his need." And the greatest Democrat of all time repeat- edly warned: 'That govern- ment is best which governs least.''.
