He believed that when God commands, H e equips. As Or. Oliver says, "Noah had the faith of the old colored woman who said. · Breddren, if de Lawd axes me fur to jump froo a s tone wall, it's rna business to jump, it's de Lawd's business to make de hole.' .. God lfave Noah explicit specifications regarding the dimension s of the ark. These dimension s are the same in ra tio as the di,mensio ns of our moder n liners. God to ld :-.:oah He would give men 120 years in which to repent. Meanwhile Noah was to build the ark. and preach righteou11n ess. Noah and his stalwart sons set to work buiidinK the ark. Giant trees of the forest fell befo re the gleaming ax. Gigantic a nimals dragged them to Captain Noah's 11hipbuilding yard. Plank by plank, cubit by cubit, story by story, the ark went up. Noah would build in the daytime and in the evening he would go out to the street corner to warn these god.lHB. deKenerate reprobates. of the cominK judgment. I need not tell you that Noah was not a popular preacher. They called him a pU&imii;t. a preac h e r of calamity. a jud!(ment howler. Noah often had long talks with the carpenter who was helping him to build the ark. ~oah would tell him every day of God's warning a nd would urge him to believe God. and savl' himself a nd his fa mil y. But he always refused. He would say. '"Noah. I tha nk you for the invitation, a nd I appreciate you r interest in my soul. Perhaps you are rii!ht about this Oood. He's always preachinr on sin and judpnen&. He just makes you shiver. He would never be popular with the young people of our church. Wby, he actually believes in a literal Hell. I guess he has never been to collere or he wouldn't talk that way. Our preacher would never scare us like that. We'll never give Noah a call to our church." One man says, "I think Noah is all right and I'd go into the ark with him, but I don't care for Shem. that eldest son of his. I believe he is a hypocrite. He sold me a horse last week. and when I got it home I found it had the heaves.·· Another man says, ""How preposterous of Noah to say that only the few who enter t he a rk will be saved. It"s dogma like that that is killing religion. As if God would be a just God to let everybody perish except a fe w who believe like Noah. Why. ll"s absurd."" And God said . "It is appointed unto men seven days, and after this the judgmen t." There was su c h intense conviction in Noah's message that the populace becomes alarmed. It ia indeed tragic that Rfter all t heAe yean ministers, those whn are liberal or modernistic, still don't con.!lider this a vital question. They don't want to conform their thinking to the plain statement of truth. The Lord Jesu1 Christ didn't ask for compliment. but rather im· preue:d upon them that they had to be hom again. Q .......... c;.lif. -"HMO ean a. per- lOft lov• ltitJ e7Umr7" A. There is a dift'e.~nce between "loving" or "liking" someone in the Lord. This all pretty much depends bn our own penonalitiea and circum· stanceJJ. Loving one's enemies is cer· tainly the Chriatian way of true Spirit-ftlle.d relationships. Whether we like it or not, it will double again in the years ahead . Cnless Edison is permitted to build additional power plants and transmission lines. it may become necessar~· t o blackout blocks of customers on a rotational basis within t\\·o or three years. Yet permits necessary to build an~· new major plants ha \·e been delayed or blocked for the past fom years. That's an immediate problem . We're working hard to reso lve it. The long-range problem requires findi ng more ways to conser ve energy and to use our nation's total energy resources wisely. That in volves a ll of us. In Edison's fossil-fueled plants, for example, we're now able t o produce 30% more electricity from a unit of fuel than in 1948. That helps. Demand lor eleclricity here kHPS rlslnc evtfy year. Needed new sources ol power must be built. Other· wise , blackouts may occur wilhin two or lhree years. Al lhe S1n Onolre llucltar Power Plant, luel pellets which conllin uranium are used Instead ol burnin& lossllluels. This helps conserve o~ and natufll aas. By using higher-voltage transmission lines, we're also able to deliver electricity more efficiently. To find other energy- saving techniques. we're investing millions researching Geothermal Power. Fuel Cell s, Fast Breeder Nuclear Reactors and other advanced generating met hods. We're worki ng with industrial and commercial customers t o conserve electricity in offices an d factori es. Heat from light s. fo r instance. can be recyc led and used for heating systems. Perhaps you ca n consen ·e energy, too. Have you considered wa ys to make every kil owatt count at home? We'll be happy to send you a list of practical suggestions. Write: Conservation, Edison, P.O. Box 800, Rosemead, California 91770. E E An Equal OPPOrtunity Emptoyer
