HMPA, OWfllet •d publls.htr of .lht Ensl~ •• •••••oOoooooO~oO:'OO. • WHO'S TO BLAME FOR BAD LAWS? ID polities, including our own city gov. ernment, you get what you deserve, It 18 you, dear citizen and voter, who can take the blame for the kind ol law- m•Jctng you are oow being burdened with. Our laws are becoming more restrictive and more lett-leaning because the voters themselves are drifting in that direction. Tbts doleful state o! affairs includes our OWD Newport Beach, once the solid bastion ol conservatism and private en- terprise. Ten or fifteen years ago, our City Council could not possibly have been able to carry out today' s drastic attack on the most basic of all human rights -- the right to own and manage our own private property. In that short span ol time, we have been bamboozled by ecologists, brow- beaten by environmentalists, and brain- washed by the starry eyed Idealists who lode to government for all good things. The result has been an outpouring of legislation that threatens to bring an end to our cherished free enterprise system o! economy. We who recall our past glorious his- tory o! safeguarding our individual rights can imagine the gre:W·outcry tbU would once have art.aen In protest against the restrictive laws now ~ing so meekly accspted. Just consider the zoning away ol property rights on Balboa island. And the current proposal to do the same to Balboa Peninsula. It's our honorable vice-mayor, Howard Rogers, Balboa's man on the Council, who 1s spearheading this attack. If he had been around 15 years ago trying to take away our right to property, be would have been oot on his ear at re-election time. TOM ANDERSON ~c •• ,. t T• ,._, .... Suthnland and Dr. Charles L. Feinberg FROM "BIOLA BROAOCASTER" LA KD<i:DA, CALIF. Q. PUJ.dena, Calif. "Is there any Scripture that can give us hope for life af(er death ?" A. It has been pointed out that there are untold precious prom- ises in the Word of God. Not one of them, however, belongs to an individual outside of the lord jesus Christ. Th ere is definite hope after death to the child of God. To those who have never made this most important decision of life there is nothing more than can be expect- ed than eternal damnation. Let us take the positi ve si de and suggest such passages as john 14:1-6; r Thess. 4:13-17; I Cor. 15:51-58; john 3 :1&·18; 10:27·30; 11 :25·2&, and so many, many others. Yes, there is more than ample Scrip- tural hope and evidence for us to be well assured of life after death! Q. s.n Mateo, C;~tlf. "What aids to Bible study would you suggest a person to secure which would help in their initial study of the Word of God? A/so, I have a friend who has studied science of the mind for about 50 years. She has come to the conclusion that Christ has already returned to the earth. How could this be, and how can I help her to see th e truth? I also would like to know where Cain got his w;te." A. It is most encouraging to hear from one who is anxious to study the ltlble more thoroughly! If you live near our La Mirada campus we have a well-stocked bookroom. Of course, any of these materials can be ordered by mail. C. H. Spur- geon said, "Any person who de- clares that he does not read other people will not be read himself!" In other words, do not be afraid of commentaries written by sood and &odly men. For a first volume, add to your library the work of /Mnl- son, Faucett and Brown. If you can afford it, the four.·volume un· abridged edition Is even better. II would be • good Investment The comments In here are baMd upon lhe i>rl1lnal t.xt, ond an be relied upon. It is very well done. As to the subject of science of the mind we can see the danger when one arrives at the erroneous conclusion that Jesus has come back already. Christ said in john 14:1-3 that He would come again and receive us unto himself "that where I am there ye may be also". This has certainly not happened! There is no Scriptural authentica- tion for the thought that our Sav- iour has already returned to this earth {I Thess. 4:13-18). As to your last question, Cain got his wife from among his sis- ters. Adam and Eve, following the birth of Cain and Abel, had other children. The proof is found in Gen. 5:4 where we find this fact. Someone may then ask, "Is that Biblical for a man to marry his sis· ter?" In Exodus it is absolutely for· bidden to marry too close a blood relationship. How could the human family begin from two parents and their two sons if it had not been in th is wayl Keep In mind, too, there had not been the centuries upon centuries of sin and degrada· tion in the human race as we know it today. ' Q. Puode,., Colli. "When the In- terpreter's Bible c•me out evv.pl· icals warned asaJnst it. Christ ia the true or gm-TIUE VINE uine vine in contrast with Israel. Here it should be noted that the vine was a familiar metaphor which was used in the Old Testament for Israel (cf. Jer. 2:21 : Ezelc. 15:1-6; 19 :1D- 14 ; Psa. 80:8-19). Furthor, it ohould be observed that the adjective "true" in verse I is actually mon: than the opposite of falae. The word "true" is to be understood as the idea:l and perfect against what is shadowy and imperfect. Thus, the s:une word for "true" occurs in John I :9 ; 6 :32; Revdation 3 :14 : Therefore, Christ is the true, the genuine, the idnl, the perfect Vine, u He i!l the true LiJht, the true Bread, and the true WttnHs. Furthermore:, "my Father is the husbandman" (vincdrCSHr) ac- cording to Jeaus. Thus, the heavenly Father not only cares for the vine but owns the vineyard. In John 15 :5-8 we read the fol- lowing: '1 am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in bim, the samt bringeth forth much fruit : for without me ye can do nothinr. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. "Abide in my love," says Jesus, who desires H15 disciples to continue in the shel- ter of His love for them. Further. in connection with verse 10, reference should be: made to John 14:15, 21 , 24. · Nf'xt, verse It forms a conclusion to the allegory of the Vine.
