Moat at tll<lQ preHllt aeemed to be strongly In favor • at my aide ·at the argument and oppoaed to down-ll(llll~ tbeir property. But I dld beu a btt at scoffing, and one gentleman relDU'ked that we llboold "love our property rights less and qur community more." In ana- wer to my query later, he agreed that loving our community actually means loving our fellow man. But he had no answer to my further query: "Can you show your love for your neighbor by tak- Ing away his property?" If we all understood the life and death Importance of property rights, we would not put up with the attempts by planners and-do-gooders to take away from us our right to use our property. If we lose that right, what chance have we to protect the other Individual rights enum· erated In our Constitution? If we had to go hat In hand to Big Brother govern- ment begging for a hall to hold a meet· 1ng, how could we preserve our freedom of assembly, freedom of worship, or free- dom of speech? If we could not own our own building and land, or lease from another private owner, how could private enterprise survive, how could we operate the local hardware store or publish the hometown newspaper --free from the heavy hand of regulation by Big Brother? If we don't have the guts to stop this attack of property rights here at the local level, we won't be able to stop it anywhere else, • • • IIEWOITMAMIMIIIISIII• ...... f.D Wal.Y • rAGE I lltURIOAY, PlAY!. lt7' C!!!IJI!A ;a '!'a CL IJIIII'toiCtn .I, I (I)-......... ,-._._ ............ _ ... Attention il now directed to a con· Jidaation of Paul'• notable letter to the Romana. Concerning thia inapi..d writing, it is awopriate to obtlerve the ttmarka of a c:onservative New Te.ta- .-tt scbolar : " ... the lint of SL Pt.ul's epUtlea ou:eording to the order in which they are placed in our New Testament. In order of compositioo, however, it wu the aixth, aince it was written from Corinth, u it appears from the alutations (cp. 16:23 with I Cot-. I :14 and 2 Tim. 4 :20), and from the fact that it wu carried to Rome by Phoebe, a servant or deacon- ess of the church at Cenchrea (Rom. 16 :I ), which wu near Corinth (Acts 18:18); and, if so, it must have been written during the visit to Greea. men- tiooed in Acts 20:2, 3. That was m the winter of A.D. 57, 58. The apostk t.d long wished to visit Rome (Rom. 1 :10.12 · 15:23 ), and it was hia pur· Po-e. ~ work in the east having been finiahed ( IS :23). to visit the capital on hi1 way to Spe.in ( 15 :28). Before doing 10, however, he wu detennined to r<turn to Jerwolem to preoel\1 tho; gHu of tile Gartile churches (vv. 25, 216). Not knowing, bowner, wt.l might be his fate on this dangeroua journey (vv. :\().32 ; Acu 20:22). he .smt this letter to the Christians at Rome, where he had many friends ( cp. Rom. 16). for, as the apostle of the Centiles, he considered the: chuf'ch at Rome to be under hi a c::arc ( I 5 :15, 16), altho•1gh he had never visited it. lbe theme o{ the epistle, which is one of the most elaborate ever writen by him, was naturally determined by the contro- versies through which he had passed and by the need of Jtating, formally and completely, the Gospel which he preached among the Gentiles. It is a full presentation, therefore, of the way of Wvation. Hence its supreme im~ portana:. That he addreued it to the Chriati&ns at Rome indicates, no doubt, his appreciation of the influence which the church of the world'• metTOpolia would exert, and the con.equent ne- cessity of establishing it in the faith that it might resist the uaulta of er- ror,. ( cf. George Tybout P ....... "Epistle to the Roman•" in John D. Davis, A Dictior«JJ'y of tlu BibZ., 4th Rev;sed Ed .. 1924. p. 658). Tllf APOSTOLIC SALUTATION Romans I :1-7 constitute Paul's re- markable salutation (greeting) to the Roman letter. TI1is interestinl{ ~ sage seu forth the apostle'• 1piritual experience and beliefs. Moreover, the attention of the f'e&der is directed to Paul's affif'm&tion of hia ~ip, his message of good tidings concern~ ing the Son of God, the fulfilment of Old Tutament prophecy in the cominr of Christ (vv. 2, 3), and the deity of Jesus the Messiah u manifested by the resurrection (v. 4). OUR PRESIDENT President Nixon needs our help, His enemies leave $1/2 million in unpaid campaign bills in California, engage in questionable conduct in Massachusetts, then point a finger at the White House when they find out that the other side does a little political spying, too. The President is up against a Mafia-type operation. What weapons should he use? A ,45? A bomb? Sometimes you have to play the ball the way the other fellow does if you're going to have a chance to win, Remember how the game was played in Chicago? Our Congress has a 45 per cent rate of absenteeism. And some of the absentees are squawking loudest about the way the government is being run. If these absentees were fined ~;~;.d ef~~~y le~~~im~eio ~~=:~ :n:0::or~ t~.;:~~:~~ t~:~~~ they were elected and paid to do. It's time for every American to sit down and write. a letter or send a telegram of support to our President and let him know that we are behind him 100 per cent. • • • • Some Colony white paint and a varnish job could brighten things around your house, just as your letter or telegram will brighten the President's clay, See you at the store. AL FORGIT • • • * P. S. This would be a great time tor those of us in this area to send a nice plaque to the-President reminding him . that we're on his side.
