HAAI'A,-.., 11t7bll-of lie £aat., ~-··········-········· · • ·DESPAIR AHEAD, BUT STILL ROPE Ezcept for · the Lord's commancl to occupy untll Be comes again, It would be a. dUicouragtng ordeal to continue on with the tight to save our nation from disaster. The Nov. 5 election re811lta were almost enough to make the stoutest heart despair, and the grim prospect Is that the next 2 years of a "veto proof'' U. 8. Congress can bring our nation to its knees. Our once strong and proud c01mtry, already suffering the ravages of near- runaway tnflatl.on, will be further 1m- per1led with new give-away ·spending schemes, bigger budget deficits, and thus an accelerating inflation and critical erosion in the value of the dollar. The Nov. 5 election was an ominous victory for the big spenders and social schemers. Even in the face of the oatioo- wide hue and cry atafnst rising prices, a tremendous majority of the citizens who went to the poll8 cast their votes for even hlghe~ prices. They did this with their eyes wide open, for they know that this folly of reckless spending cannot continue without retribution. And yet they ; elected those who promised more and bigger money-squandering programs. But even in total despair 1 there ·is hq>e. During the next 2 years, even the foolhardy and misguided voters of 1974 may . recognize the deadly peril ahead as they see their grocery bill skyrocketing, shortages In essential items, growing unemployment, possibly new wage and price controls, and the rising threat of rioting and looting. Then, U it is not too late, there can come a revival of patriotism, self reliance, initiative, thrift, and a determination to throw out all the big spending looters out of office. And then we can getdowotothebusiness of restoring our free enterprise republic --with a dedicated determination to keep it that way --with the Lord' a help. TOM ANDERSON .. , ... Did Christ pa, taxes whll'n He livf' here on the f!fl.rlhf" ANSWER: Yes, jeous Christ paid oil taxc . aad tributes common among the people of His day. You'll note tbe Scripture says, "And wbeo tbey were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?" Matt. 17:24. Later on, in verse 27 of Matt. 17, after Peter bad caugbt tbe fish containing "a piece of money" in ita mouth, Peter wqs instructed to take that money ''and give unto them for Me (Christ) and thee (Peter)." Therefore, it is not Scriptural for Christians to try to get out of paying taxes. Tbe Bible plainly tello us that we &Je to be in obedience to our government. (Rom. 13:1-8.) QUESTION' "In !he Book of Aclt !he chief capl<>in w ys, 'with a great IUm·obtafn.ed I thU freedbm: Dfd Rome seU citiz.eruhip?'" ANSWER: Under the first Rom:m Emperors, freedom of Roman citizenship, with all its privileges, was purchased by aliens. or former servants or slaves who possessed the means or the money, oftentimes at tremendous sacrifice. During the latter rule citizenship became very cheap. Roman citizenship carried with it many privileges. In Acts Z2 you'll note that the Apostle Paul's Roman citizenship gave all of those with whom he came in contact quite a bit of trouble. It meant more in his day than it did in later years. .~ QUESTION: "Wh~ dCJ ~ou use me/hod of It: aching the Bible 1" tht: dispensational ANSWER : My reason for doing so is that it's easier ~to ,explain the Bible in a progreHive maoaer by teach-- \ io ~ l'\ ...J ~ ~.' ~·.Pe.'1P\" "~b-ljj)Ob" tb}.t mel hi,? o! teOCh&ng , '&&it if'~· cln tot I people to see that in it given time God dealt with people in a period of Innocency, tben allowed them to live under their Conscience, followed by Human Government, later, Promise, then, Law, and finally, Grace, and eventually the Millennial Reign, you can pinpoint the over·all plan of God in segments. I Hod that the human mind understands and grasps truth much easier this way. QUESTION .- mation ." "Pltast gavt yovr opinion on ere · ANSWER: There is nothing in the Bible for or against cremation. When the Spirit of God comes back into the body of a believer, regardless of wbether be has been burned to ashes, blown apart in an explosion, or is lying beautifully preserved in an airtight vault six feet under the sod , it won 't rDMke any difference. We must remember that the power of God is involved in the resurrection of the body. Please oote that tbe Scripture sa ys: Scripture : "But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus h om the de ad dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shalJ also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you." Rom. 8:11. Therefore, God 's power is put into operation at the resurrection of the body, and it doesn't matter whether it's ashes, s mall pieces, or lyiD& in ooe big piece in the grave, that body will be re1urrected by God's power! I hope this answer makea you feel better! PLAY MONEY After you work hard for 40 to 50 years and accumulate a few things to leave behind you, you find yoursell eyeball-to-eyeball with the biggest legalized thief in the world , , , the government, No matter how many high-powered estate planners you hire, your biggest heir is going to end up being your richest uncle , , , Uncle Sam, Now, I wouldn't mind leaving the oid Uncle his fair share, but what he wants is ridiculous, It really sets you to wondering what Uncle is going to do with all that money, And does he really know how hard you worked for it? I'm afraid not, l'm afraid Uncle Sam and all of his nephews down the line in state, county and city government take the same viewpoint about our money: It's something for them to play with -just play money, Now, let's look at the recent Cliff Drive park deal, for example, The park director wants an extra park to play with, The city calls it a "regional" park to get federal revenue-sharing money through the county, What probably started off as $1 million out of my and your pockets comes back as $200,000 to "help us" buy the park, We already bought it once, as state taxpayers, so now the state turns around and sells It back to us for some city, county and federal money , , , which also came from us, Why didn't the state just put the prq>erty Into their regional park system? It's all fun and very intriguing If you're a politician or a bureaucrat. A fun game played with funny money, "I'll buy your park, and you buy my freeway, and then 1'11 turn your freeway into a parking lot, and let's move this church over here, and these peq>le over there!' I wonder If they would play with gold If we went back on the gold standard and tool< away some of their lunny money? Let's face It, Our money Is' being handled by a crowd that ,you wouldn't dare hire as money managers, They're playing a game with your money, and playing it very foolishly, And, as the old Chinaman, Contuclus, once said: "A fool and b1s money are soon parted!'
